The Graduate School of the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) has again graduated the Doctor of Laws. This time, the three doctors who passed were Isman (57th Doctorate), Iksan (58th Doctoral) and Hartotok (59th Doctorate). The open exam procession was carried out offline and online on Thursday (16/03/2022) because the situation was still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Of the three doctors, Isman chose to take an open examination in front of the promoter, co-promoter and examiner to present the results of his research entitled “The Concept of Extrapolated Reasoning in the Perspective of Prophetic Law”. In this open examination, Isman conveyed that the uniqueness of the title he chose was to accommodate reasoning in Islamic law to be applied in positive law. Isman also hopes that in the future he can get a good academic climate and get a standard reasoning model.
Apart from Isman, there were two who passed without taking the open examination, namely Ikhsan and Hartotok because they had published scientific papers in International Journals indexed by Scopus. In accordance with the Decree of the Chancellor of UMS No. 120/II/2018, regarding the provisions of articles published in Scopus indexed International Journals, they are considered equivalent to a substitute for an open exam.
The struggle to achieve a Doctorate degree in the UMS Doctor of Law Program in the era of the covid-19 pandemic is not easy because of the obstacles that existed at that time. However, with hard work and persistence while still complying with health protocols, Alhamdulillah, the three doctors of law were able to graduate with articles that have been published in Scopus indexed International Journals.
